Murals of Tibet

The treasury of Tibet's wall murals created by master artists over the past thousand years have remained hidden from the outside world until now. Over a series of five expeditions across Tibet Thomas Laird employed revolutionary digital multi-image capture techniques to document over two hundred and fifty of the oldest and most important murals.

This work led to a ground breaking exhibition at the Rubin Museum of Art, New York. The first ever life size resolution images of Tibetan murals--the Murals of the Lukhang-- have been on continuous display since 2011 and a further temporary installation at the Wellcome Trust, London in 2016.

In 2018 TASCHEN published "The Murals of Tibet" as a large format limited edition book, the first overview of these extraordinary murals - click here to order
